Ritesh Agarwal is the founder of OYO, a startup from India that has officially entered its startup into Indonesia. Operating in October 2018, OYO has hundreds of thousands of rooms to stay in cities in Indonesia. Carrying the concept of “manchise” OYO holds full management and control of each of its partners. But did you know that Ritesh Agarwal is a man who doesn’t has any college background?
The following is a brief of his profile and the reason why he built OYO.
Ritesh Agarwal’s Childhood
Ritesh Agarwal was born on November 16, 1993. He came from a middle-class Marwari family (more like a tribe that likes to do business) living in the state (Province) of Orissa. Ritesh Agarwal was born and raised in Bisam in Cuttack, Orissa.
Being one of Marwari people, Ritesh knows very well how a business must be run. Before he became a young billionaire, his family did not have good financial conditions. His family always supports Ritesh to be what he is today and always believes in every decision he makes.
During childhood Ritesh was not a teenager who was sociable, his interest was more in programming. The most interesting thing here is that all the love for programming comes from his brother. He learned Pascal’s language on his, and interestingly Ritesh began coding when he was 8 years old. On his 10th grade, he finally decided that he wanted to master the programming language.
Ritesh’s First Company
When he was 17 years old, Ritesh began his entrepreneurial journey. he launched Oravel Stays Pvt.Ltd right after he left his college, in 2012, It was his first startup. The Oravel company is designed for customers that allows them to book low-budget and affordable rooms.
At his 19s, Ritesh tried to travel for months to try his company. He stayed in many hotels and tried to solve the problems he faced himself, problems between the hotel-partners and his company customers.
Everyday he experienced real problems that came from both sides. And those experience really helped him when he changed the name of his company from Oravel Stays into OYO, a stand for On Your Own.
OYO and Ritesh’s Success
Oyo Rooms now has thousands of rooms from 2,200 lodging networks in 154 cities across India – with monthly revenues of $ 3.5 million and 1,500 employees. There’s no doubt that Ritesh is a young entrepreneur who has won many national and international awards at his 24.
Ritesh has a book called “Kaleidoscope” which he wrote himself. The book has 25 short stories that really inspire many people. The story comes from the award winners he chose among several other contestants in the online contest held by Spring Tile.
